Mr Whipper.com -- Where I live

Mr Whipper in his bed Welcome to the home of Mr Whipper... Mr Whipper has free reign of his house and back yard in Jamul, Ca (a suburb of San Diego).

Mr Whipper has a bed on top of the china cabinet, with a ramp that allows him to leave any time he wishes. In the mornings, Mr Whipper usually egresses from the top of the cabinet down his ramp and out the French doors on to the deck. Once on the deck, he will usually stay there for a few hours doing what iguanas love to do, sun bathe. Eventually Mr whipper will decide it’s time to go spend the rest of the day in his tree... so he will crawl to the end of the deck, where we have erected a ramp that allows him to go directly from the deck to the tree. He will spend most of the day in this tree, watching people around the house, but he especially enjoys watching people in the pool. When people are in the pool, they are usually quite surprised to discover an enormous iguana is watching them. They then fell compelled to go say hi to Mr Whipper. When the afternoon arrives, mr whipper eventually makes his way back on to the deck for a snack before he goes inside for the night.

Habitat wise, Mr Whipper is an odd iguana. From everything we have read/heard/seen, Iguanas are not able to survive in cold temperature... This is where Mr Whipper’s quirky side comes out, because he seems to defy traditional lizard logic, he seems to like the cold. On days when it will be cold (high 40’s, low 50’s), Mr Whipper will insist on staying outside at night in his tree... He is always fine in the morning, although sometimes it takes him a while to thaw out. It would seem that Mr Whipper likes the cold... we have a heating pad in his bed on top of the china cabinet, and he will rarely stay on it for more then a few minutes. From everything we have read about Iguanas, Mr Whipper should not be able to survive in temperature below the 80’s, yet he regularly sleeps in temperature in the 40’s-50’s. We are not sure if his size is what allows Mr Whipper to survive in colder temperature, or if he had just become acclimated to this temperature range over the years.
